Our History
Joint Hospital Ozubulu traces its origins to 1955 when the Holy Rosary Sisters of Ihiala, under the leadership of Archbishop Charles Heerey, C.S.Sp., established a four-bed maternity home on the present site of the hospital.
In 1963, the Ozubulu Youth Organization, with the support of the then Eastern Region Government of Nigeria, expanded the facility by constructing a 36-bed hospital to serve the growing healthcare needs of the community.
Further development came in 1981 when the Anakpu Traditional Club of Nigeria, Ozubulu, a renowned cultural and social organization, built and donated a private ward consisting of fifteen self-contained rooms, significantly enhancing the hospital’s capacity and comfort for patients.
The hospital was officially registered as a 123-bed healthcare institution in February 1980 under Registration Number 310/80 by Sr. Mary Pauline, IHM.
Our Identity
Joint Hospital Ozubulu is a unique healthcare institution with a rich history of collaboration and community partnership. As its name implies, the hospital is jointly owned by the people of Ozubulu and the then Government of Eastern Nigeria (but now Anambra State Government), while its management is entrusted to the Catholic Church.
For decades, the hospital has remained committed to providing accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare services to the people of Ozubulu and neighboring communities. Guided by Christian values of compassion, excellence, and service, we continue to uphold our mission of promoting health, preserving life, and caring for every patient with dignity and respect.
